Chamber of Secrets is the sequel to the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's / Sorcerer's Stone. It continues a coming of age epic that will enchant readers with its honest portrayal of humanity. In the first book, Harry arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry knowing little of his past and the events for which he was famous. However, with the help of his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, Harry chose to continue his destiny and defeated Lord Voldemort, the second time.
Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin, four great wizards/witches of their times, created Hogwarts... supposedly the only wizarding school in entire England. The wizards/witches were classified into three groups, pure-blood (a wizard/witch purely coming from magical background), mud-blood(a wizard/witch born of two non-magic parents) and half-blood (a cross of a pure-blood and a mud-blood). The four creators lived time in peace. However, Salazar Slytherin wanted Hogwarts to be a school of only "pure-blood"s. The other three founders were against it so he left the school. Before leaving the school, he supposedly created a "Chamber of Secrets" within which lied a vicious animal. Eventually, an heir of Slytherin would come and open the chamber releasing the beast which would kill all the mud-bloods in the school.
A house-elf named Dobby appeared from the middle of nowhere in the latter part of Harry's summer vacation (on his 12th birthday), warning him about the dangers in his second year at Hogwarts. Ignoring the warnings, Harry went to Hogwarts. As Dobby said, there were great dangers waiting for Harry...
In the middle of the year, the Chamber of Secrets is opened and everyone thought that Harry opened it. When they discover Harry as a parselmouth (with ability to talk to serpents), they become even more sure. However, it is later when they realise that it wasn't Harry, it wasn't even the second one they thought who was responisble...
